What an eSIM actually changes
A traditional SIM and an eSIM do the same core job: they identify your subscription to a mobile network. The difference is how the subscription is delivered. An eSIM profile is downloaded to the secure eSIM hardware already built into your phone.
For travel, this means you can keep your normal SIM installed while adding a separate data plan for the country or region you are visiting. You can then choose which SIM handles mobile data in your phone settings.
How a travel eSIM connects
After installation, the travel eSIM searches for supported partner networks in the destination. When it registers successfully, mobile data can start flowing through that eSIM profile.

What happens to your normal number?
